Greeting from the Councillor

about-img

On behalf of the Island Government of Gran Canaria, its president Antonio Morales Méndez and the person addressing these lines on behalf of both, I would like to extend a warm welcome to this virtual space of Gran Canaria Moda Cálida.

Throughout these years, the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida programme has transformed the promotion and commercialisation of fashion made on our island. Our commitment has been clear: to support local companies and promote new talent, positioning Gran Canarian fashion within and beyond our borders.

We have been committed to professional growth through initiatives such as the increase in scholarships for fashion students and the creation of the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida School. Since 2015, we have focused on bringing local fashion closer to the public with innovative events and actions that have strengthened the marketing and visibility of our designers. In addition, we have consolidated our identity linked to swimwear fashion, which is now a national benchmark.

Gran Canaria Swim Week has become an event of national and international prestige. It is, in fact, the only professional and specialised swimwear fashion show in Europe. Networking with companies, creators, designers, institutions, international organisations, opinion leaders, the media and other industry agents has generated opportunities for the growth of the sector and improvements in the management of the programme.

Our challenge now is to keep moving forward, joining forces to position Gran Canaria and its fashion on the world map. We are driven by the creativity and talent of our designers, who are the soul of Gran Canaria Moda Cálida.

Together we will continue to set trends from our island to the world!

Minerva Alonso

Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria
